Professional Development
for Staff in Education

Foster an environment that supports collaboration and team building to create a healthy and liberating culture.

An Introduction to Unconscious Bias

The culture we live in was not created overnight and it won’t be changed solely through legal and policy change - it will require each and every one of us to change how we think and act. In order to create a better world, we need to engage with ourselves so that we can better engage and support others.

This is a 90 min session – commonly utilized for staff training and INSET Days.

Session Aim:

This is not a one-session, 'fix all' solution for instant behavioural change. Overcoming unconscious bias takes commitment, deep self-awareness, and ongoing work.

  • Staff are introduced to the concept of unconscious bias and explore tools collaboratively, for overcoming it.

  • Together, we discuss what it means to become an effective ally and become change agents within our communities.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives:

  • Understand the most common types of bias and how these are sustained structurally.

  • Critically evaluate workplace processes and scenarios through a lens of privilege, power, and intersectionality.

  • Generate actionable ideas to embed inclusive and equitable practice.

Overcoming Unconscious Bias: 1-Year CPD Program

The teacher workforce is overwhelmingly White. In 2019, 85.7% of all teachers in state-funded schools in England were White British, and 1.5% were White Irish (out of those whose ethnicity was known).*

Data from the School Workforce Census for England shows a positive trend, with workforce diversity (measured by the percentage of teachers that belong to an ethnic minority) increasing from 2010 (11%) to 2018 (14%).**

The subject of diversity, equity and inclusion (D.E.I) is one that many schools are seeking to address and bring whole staff teams on board to generate fresh new interest and openness within the school setting.

Ensuring staff are nurtured and have more opportunities to learn

Unconscious bias falls under the banner of D.E.I so this CPD program seeks to equip staff with the knowledge and confidence to honour the values of D.E.I for all.

Holistic Program Objective

To help you as staff have a greater understanding of your natural biases so that this school can become a more equitable, inclusive and compassionate community.

This is a hybrid program of in-person training (i.e. during Inset Days) and staff access to an online portal.

The online portal includes access to:

  • Resources

  • Bite-sized videos

  • Case studies

  • Worksheets

  • Exercises

All in one place!

Program Roadmap:

  • Phase 1: An Introduction To Unconscious Bias

  • Phase 2: Unpacking The Biases

  • Phase 3: Optimizing Team Performance

  • Phase 4: Getting Activated & Moving Forward

Learning Outcomes and Objectives:

  • Discover your own unconscious biases.

  • Practical introspection on how unconscious bias plays out in day-to-day life so you can learn to create different patterns of behaviour.

  • Staff empowered to take ownership of their learnings moving forward. This demonstrates that there is a dependency on them to lead first.

  • Team collaboration to ensure everyone is working together.

Strengthen Your Staff Communication

Everyone Speaks. Not Everyone is Heard.

Most teams only perform at 58% of their capability.

Everyone has a leadership voice, whether they know it or not. From the most quiet to the most sociable, we all have the ability to lead others.

The problem is...

Most people don’t know their leadership voice or how to use it. Some don’t know what it is, others are insecure in their voice and have been told it is unimportant, and others immaturely overuse their voice and dominate the airwaves.

In partnership with GiANT Worldwide, Strengthen Your Staff Communication is designed to help every individual discover their leadership voice and be empowered to use it effectively.

Together, we believe teams and whole organizations can be transformed when everyone operates securely in their own voice and learns to value the voices of others.

This a 90 minute workshop with the opportunity to further immerse into a series of online interactive workshops.

Session Aim:

  • Enhance your team’s communication

  • Leverage the strengths of each team member

  • Enable each person to bring their best to the team

  • Increase the capacity and deepen the levels of trust in the team

Typical outcomes experienced:

  • Increased self awareness and confidence as each person discovers their Leadership Voice

  • Honest conversations being the norm with fewer tensions and challenges

  • Greater collaboration
